Implant dentar

According to the American Academy of Dental Implantology, dental implants are the best treatment solution for replacing one or more teeth and restoring 99% of their functionality and natural aesthetics.

In the last couple of years, dental implants have become more and more popular, with over 3 million patients worldwide.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a surgical procedure which seeks to replace fallen or decaying teeth with artificial, but natural-looking ones.

What is a dental implant?

The success rate of dental implants is over 98% worldwide.

What is a dental implant made of?

The screw plays the role of an artificial root which is inserted into the bone. This is the basis of the tooth and can sustain one or more artificial teeth (crowns).

The abutment connects the artificial tooth (crown) to the screw.

The crown represents the artificial tooth and it is carefully made in special laboratories to resemble natural teeth in shape and color.

What are the benefits of a dental implant?

  • Natural-looking teeth

Dental implants are made to look, feel and function like natural teeth. Moreover, they give patients a boost of self-confidence, helping them smile, eat and talk, without having to worry about how they look.

  • Long-term results

With proper care and hygiene, dental implants can last a very long time.

  • Great efficiency and precision

Dental implants are made with high-quality materials, which are biocompatible with the human body. Also, because of the high level of technology available, the success rate of this kind of treatment is very high.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a dental implant?

  • Speaking functions are improved.
  • The health of the other natural teeth is maintained.
  • Similar functionality to natural teeth.
  • Face physiognomy remains the same.

  • High level of comfort and easy to maintain in good shape.
  • You can enjoy a better oral hygiene.
  • You don’t need a period of adaptation.
  • No gum bleeding.
  • No food restrictions.

Like any other surgical intervention, disadvantages for dental implants usually refer to complications. These can include infections, deterioration of the surrounding tissue (blood vessels or other teeth), nerve lesions or sinus problems.

Moreover, because the mandible’s bone needs some time to heal, the recovery process can take a couple of months.

What are the stages of a dental implant?

A dental implant includes several stages, from planning and consultation with an implantology specialist, to the final stage of recovery.

Planning and consultation Planning and consultation 1-2 hours

An implantology specialist will carefully analyze the oral cavity, to assess if a dental implant is necessary and what kind of anesthesia should be used. He can also request other types of investigations, as well as a set of digital photos for diagnosis, OPG/CBCT investigations and a 3D simulation of the implant’s insertion, using the CBCT for efficiency and accuracy. With these results, the medic will decide how the surgery will be made.

The 3D CT Scanner from Planmeca ProMax represents the highest digital technology available, which enables maximum accuracy in diagnosing a maxillofacial disease and digital mapping of areas ranging in size from a few millimeters, to the entire intracranial area. Planmeca ProMax 3D (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) includes 3D imaging, 3D photos, 2D panorama and cephalometric analysis, all in one device. This combination creates a 3D virtual patient, thus enabling the highest degree of accuracy in diagnosis.

Anaesthetization and patient preparation Anaesthetization and patient preparation 10-15 minutes

To increase the patient’s level of comfort, we will do a digital anesthesia with a mechanically-controlled dosage. Moreover, throughout the entire process, the medic will be assisted by a team of anesthesiologists.

Implant insertion Implant insertion 15-30 minutes

At first, a small incision in the gums will be made, to expose the bone to which the implant will be fixed. Next, we will drill a hole in the bone – the insert for the screw, which will hold the artificial tooth. The suture wires will be removed after seven or ten days. After this stage, the patient has to wait between two and nine months, to allow the bone cells to heal and attach themselves to the surface of the implant. After 6 months, the abutment will be placed and finally, the artificial tooth.

Throughout this process, you need to adhere to a strict oral hygiene and go to the dentist for scaling and other prophylactic treatments.

At Dent Estet, the doctors’ precision is unmatched, thanks to the surgical guide 3Shape Medical A/S Implant Studio – Implant Planning & Surgical Guide Solution. The recovery process is faster, with the Endoret PRGF device, which accelerates tissue regeneration. The intra-oral scanner 3Shape TRIOS 3 Pod-Digital Impression Solution is a digitally-assisted process which replaces the classic cast. In this way, manual error is removed, the time spent on the dentist’s chair is considerably shorter and the experience is non-invasive and relaxed for the patient. Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a computerized process which simulates the results of the procedures even before the first treatment session.

Moreover, the intervention is painless, thanks to the Waterlase laser, built by Biolase, the most innovative brand in the field of laser development. Waterlase allows for extremely precise incisions, required for the dental implant treatment. It also has the Repair Implant function, through which peri-implantitis cases are treated. Dent Estet is the first Romanian dental clinic to adopt the PRGF technology since 2007, for dental implant procedures and other complex dental procedures. The PRGF technology (with platelet-rich plasma) is a procedure which uses the patient’s blood to speed up the recovery process post-surgery.

Dental implant – risks and contraindications

Dental implant is not recommended to those who suffer from diabetes, bone disease or cancer. As far as age is concerned, dental implants can be made after the bones are completely developed (after adolescence).

Dental implant won’t be made if the patient has cavities, plaque, root canal infections or other signs of periodontal disease.

  • Implant overload.
  • Gum inflammation and infection.
  • Loss of bone mass.
  • Nerve, blood vessels or sinus deterioration.
  • Implant rejection.

Implant rejection symptoms (only 2% of cases worldwide)

  • Swallowing difficulties.
  • Gum inflammation.
  • Gum recession.
  • Pain and discomfort.
  • Weakening of the implant.

Recovery process and recommendations after the dental implant

Just like any other surgical intervention, initially you will feel some local discomfort, gum inflammation and bruises or minor bleedings. The medic will prescribe you painkillers to calm the pain. For inflammation, you can also apply a cold compress to the cheek.

To avoid possible complications, follow these steps:

  • Do not touch the operated area with your tongue, to avoid inflammation. With time, you will see that the sensitivity will slowly decrease.

  • Respect the basic oral hygiene principles.

  • You can start brushing again even on the first day after the intervention, but it is recommended that you use a brush with soft bristles for the operated area and avoid electric brushes.

  • Avoid foods and hot beverages until the effect of the anesthetic wears off and don’t drink coffee on the first seven days after the surgery, because there’s a high risk of hemorrhage. Also, it isn’t recommended to eat floury foods, because they can stick to your gums and cause inflammation. You should eat soft foods until sutures are removed.

  • Avoid smoking, because it can lead to serious complications and treatment failure.

  • Visit the dentist regularly.

They are backed by tens of years of studies and research, which over time led to the creation of some of the best dental implants, in terms of durability, osteointegration and aesthetics.

How many implants are necessary for edentulous patients?

Can persons with diabetes have dental implants?

Yes, if the diabetic has stable glycemia and no other medical issues. There are even certain Straumann implants recommended for this type of patients, because they provide better recovery.

What is the success rate of the dental implant?

Will the dental implant feel like a natural tooth?

Yes, the implant is designed to look and feel like a natural tooth. The osteointegration process is fast, that’s why the body will perceive the implant as it would a natural root.

How soon after the procedure can the suture wires be removed?

The suture wires are removed after 7-10 days, but that depends on the complexity of the procedure.

How long is the recovery process?

The recovery process lasts somewhere between 4 and 6 months, but it all depends on the genetic material of the patient. The good news is that they can easily go back to their daily activities right after the intervention.

How soon after an extraction can I benefit from an implant?

Our doctors recommend a period of 3-4 months of recovery after an extraction. However, there are cases in which an implant can be done right after the extraction. This decision is made by the doctor during the intervention, while keeping in mind the available bone mass and the state of the extracted tooth (if infection is present or not).

How long does a dental implant last?

That depends on the type of implant, the genetic material of the patient (he/she has no serious health issues), the medic’s experience and the post-intervention hygiene.
